SwellSpots' Wave Plunger Generation Technology (The "Wave Tainer")

At SwellSpot we have developed an innovative plunger wave-generation system. Our plunger wave generator is a completely different wave generation technology. As currently designed, our plunger wave generation system produces waves up to nine feet, with multiple swells per hour depending on the frequency of the swell. These swells transverse over patented artificial reef breaks and produce waves in the advanced, intermediate and beginner sections. Wave size is adjustable, from three to nine feet, via computer interface.  SwellSpot wave generation technology is a mechanical plunger driven system. The system functions by using stored and potential energy to power the waves under less energy consumption.

We use a patented indvidual plungers module design made of various material. The individual plunger modules work by being pulled up and then pushed down. At the start of each wave, the plunger modules retract utilizing refraction of the stored energy already in place. Then as the individual plunger modules power downward, a swell is pushed into the surf lagoon. The swell then breaks of the varies different reefs positioned throughout the surf lagoon. The modules are powered by a hydraulic actuator system. The hydraulic system and accumulators load up pressure over time under lesser energy cost, to then utilize stored power at peak energy need. Our system is capable of continuous operation producing swells every 8.5 seconds.

With each plunger module operating individually, controlled through a PLC control, the operator can change module, which changes the wave travel distance, wave angle, velocity and timing to produce a near infinite changes in wave shape and form for surfing patrons. 

SwellSpot Technology

SwellSpot waves are created by the best plunger wave maker in the industry with reef breaks that are customed designed. SwellSpot has (11) issued patents. To name a few of our patents, five issued patents for plunger wave generation technology, two issued patents for artificial reef technology and 1 issued patent for rip current mitigation technology. We have 2 patents for surf lagoon construction methods. 

SwellSpot's achievement in wave production is remarkable. Clean ocean swells without any turbulence during creation and a lagoon design which creates multiple reef break points in the smallest footprint possible. Each designed to increase throughput, manage patron position and flow, reduce overall energy consumption, and reduce water management. As an open concept, visible to surfers and spectators no other wave maker on the market compares in quality and uniqueness.

Surf Lagoon/Reef Design

Once a swell has been generated at its desired velocity, size and direction, its breaking characteristics are determined by the contours of the surf lagoon bathymetry (bottom). SwellSpot has developed a patented surf lagoon/reef designs that maximize the ride length, wave quality, safety, and operational efficiency in a minimum surf lagoon footprint. We can custom make many different reef designs such as A Frame, wedge, ledge, ridge and pinnacle. We can design many maneuver sections on the same wave with such sections as barrel, REO, aerial, weaving and cut back sections. 

Waves are generated in the deep end of the surf lagoon, traveling past each reef break where waves form and break in their respective design. Waves break simultaneously in various wave heights and power, dependent upon the reef section. 

A premiere reef provides use for intermediate to advanced surfers at 2 rides per A frame wave, while secondary reefs provide waves of equal quality, but lesser size, suitable for advancing beginners, intermediate riders or those opting for smaller waves. The inside area of the reef provides beginners and those learning to catch whitewash waves which are perfectly suitable for learning how to surf in a controlled environment. In all we can have multiple riders all catching the same wave, at the same time, in various reef sections.

Surfspot Surf Facilities/Surf Camp:

We are so excited to announce that Swellspot Wave Company is launching our new Surfspot Surf Facilities around the world. Our first Surf Facilities will be called "Surf Camps" and will focus on beginner and intermediate surfers. The wave heights for the intermediate reefs will be 4-foot wave followed by an inside beginner section that has waste high whitewash paddle straight in waves. Our Surf Camp facilities will focus on a (1) and (2) break surf lagoons.
